Our Mission

Our mission is to help early detection, prevention, and to increase awareness of current treatments that are available for Melanoma. Melanoma accounts for 3% of all skin cancer cases, but is responsible for the most skin cancer deaths. “Treatment of melanoma continues to evolve as medicine advances, but today, the best plan remains prevention and early detection,” notes Curtis Raskin, M.D. dermatologist on staff at John Muir Medical Center – Concord, CA. Campus.

Educating people at an early stage is important to prevent the disease. This means discussing the disease with children before they expose themselves to the harmful rays of the sun. Learning what the industry calls the A B C D’s; Asymmetry, Border, Color, and Diameter can easily be taught to your children to inspect their own skin on a regular basis.

Having a comprehensive source of information for people to frequent and conduct their own research is a valuable tool. The mission of the SCARF website is to enable the end-user who is not familiar with skin cancer at all, to be able to self-educate and conduct their own research.
