How to detect Melanoma

What are the signs of Melanoma?

Learn your ABCD’s:

Asymmetry-One half of the mole doesn’t match the other half.

Border irregularity-The edges are ragged, notched or blurred.

Color-Pigmentation is not uniform, shades of tan, brown and black are present.  Dashes or red, white and blue can add to the mottled appearance.

Diameter-Any mole that grows should be a concern, especially if it’s bigger than a pencil eraser.  Melanomas are usually greater than 6mm in diameter when diagnosed.

Note: If you notice a mole (of any size) different from others, itches, bleeds or any changes, you should contact a dermatologist.
