Distribution
SCARF is committed that a minimum of 80% of all contributions received will be provided to the institutes listed on the Donation page to help fund research and treatment options for Melanoma patients. The distribution of the remaining 20% of contributions will be used in the following manner:
45% Education
Our primary focus will be spent on Education. Our team will speak at Elementary, Middle & High Schools throughout Northern California spreading information about the detection and prevention of Melanoma. It is critical that this disease be stopped before it starts.
“Treatment of melanoma continues to evolve as medicine advances, but today, the best plan remains prevention and early detection”, notes Curtis Raskin, M.D. dermatologist on staff at John Muir Medical Center –Concord Campus.
Focusing on skin protection through the use of sun block, clothing and hats at an early age will get people in the habit of not having to worry about applying sun burn gels and ointments as they get older. Self examinations are important. If an individual has a suspicious mole or change in their skin it is prudent to have a health care provider examine the site.
Our team will attend local events within the community to hand out brochures providing information about melanoma. At our fundraisers we will always have a topic of discussion and supporting information to provide to all who attend to be further educated before the finish or leave the event.
Of course with the SCARF Website, our hope is to continue to build it with more information, current findings in the oncology field, and success stories of new treatments and ways to prevent melanoma.
30% Fundraising
Our fundraising will take place at SCARF events such as the Golf Tournament, Tea Gathering, Dinner Auction and Melanoma March. The funds we receive will go to support and sponsor these events, along with the support of the attendees. We will have target goal amounts for each event and post the results on the web site shortly after each event. Our hope is we can exceed our success each year and grow our fundraising into a multi million dollar National Foundation.
15% Administration
The Foundation administration costs will be minimal as everyone is on a volunteer basis. The fees will cover marketing and general office material as we continue to grow our Foundation.
10% Research
We need to dedicate a portion of the funds to help us find new resources and material to continue keeping the website updated and current.
