SCARF receives Internal Revenue Services' Approval for Tax Exemption status. Exemption status approved through December 31, 2011
Walnut Creek, CA – June 27, 2007 Sherri Tennant Melanoma Cancer Awareness & Research Foundation , SCARF, a cancer awareness foundation, received approval from the Internal Revenue Service for exemption from federal income tax under section 501 (c) (3) on the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to SCARF are deductible under the section 170 of the Code. SCARF is also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devices, transfers and gifts under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the code.This approval is well before the expected time of 12-months for an approval rating and puts SCARF well ahead of plan. “We can now start implementing our strategy of grant applications and fund raising events”, says Founder & CEO, Jim Tennant. Viewers can look forward to a new website design and dates of upcoming events before the end of Quarter 3, 2007. About SCARF SCARF is a non-profit public charity operating with a Board of Directors helping educate the general public about the prevention, detection and current treatments of melanoma, the skin cancer with the highest incidence of death. The foundation proceeds will help benefit a variety of institutes and treatment facilities across the country. SCARF’s education will encompass all ages of the general public, from middle schools, high schools and colleges, to speaking forums within communities the foundation is able to reach.
